My cousin, Jamie, just posted a top 25 list of reasons that she loved being a mom. It was a beautiful post and it got me to thinking . . . what a wonderful way to celebrate Mother's Day. So here are my top 25 reasons (from this past year) that I love being a mom.
1. I love watching the girls run up to Michael and hug him as soon as they see him coming around the corner with his class on the way to the lunch room at school. I am so overjoyed that my kids love each other.
2. I have to laugh when Sarah finds yet another spot to hide Brown Bear. And Ben and I search for him for hours on end . . . and eventually find him . . . so far.
3. Going out for ice cream. Ben and Jerry's, Baskin Robbins, Ritas, Leatherbys, Shivers . . . ice cream makes everyone smile.
4. Having movie nights. It is so fun to watch them snuggled up in a big bed eating their popcorn and asking me questions about Anastasia, Mulan, etc.
5. I love watching Michael fish. He loves it . . . choosing the correct bait, casting in just the right spot, or helping his sisters.
5 1/2. I love having a bed big enough that my whole family can snuggle together in it on Saturday mornings.
6. Watching Sarah decorate sugar cookies. It is all about the SPRINKLES . . . she doesn't even need the cookie.
7. I loved watching Emma and Michael in the last Primary Program. They had their parts memorized perfectly, and didn't even get stage fright.
8. Saturday mornings spent in the 'Tippy Top' in jammies. Nothing is better than playing, playing, playing with no other distractions.
9. I loved watching Emma learn to swim. The best part was seeing her eyes get big when she realized that she was actually doing it.
10. I love that my kids love to make cookies. I love to use it as a time to talk, laugh, smile and create. I love it that they love to sneak tastes of the dough as much as I do.
11. I love to see Sarah give Daisy (the dog) hugs and kisses. She is a gentle, sweet soul.
12. Looking back . . . I loved that for 40-something days we had no belongings. I really got to know my kids better. They have brilliant imaginations.
13. I love that Micheal thinks that my Sweet and Sour Chicken tastes better than ice cream.
14. Playing family night games with the kids. (Shrek and Donkey, musical chairs, Don't Eat Pete, Deer and Steamroller, etc) We laugh so hard that we snort.
15. I love it that Emma has a hard time going to school in the mornings . . . it proves that she is really my daughter. And I love that she loves her home so much.
16. I loved hearing Sarah say "Go Bob" and "Sup Ralph" to the horses pulling our carriages around downtown Salt Lake. She has grown up so much this year.
17. I loved taking my kids ice skating for the first time. Michael and Emma were so determined to to it by themselves that we just stayed in the middle of the rink and they took baby steps and fell often . . . but they did it in the end.
18. I loved helping Michael on his science project. It reaffirmed that he is just as nerdy and Ben and I . . . we all had way too much fun testing the planes, discussing the results and making the poster.
19. Watching Emma create things. She is truly an artist . . . she amazes me with her talent.
20. I love it that Micheal is so smart. He is so quick, and amazes me with the connections he makes.
21. I love it when Ben gets home and Sarah immediately stops what she is doing and runs over and hugs him. "I missed you daddy-o."
22. I love it that during the month of January, my girls will spend all morning upstairs trying on, and playing in their swimsuits.
23. I LOVE that I am not in this parenting thing alone. I am so lucky to have Ben as a partner as we try to teach these sweet spirits. Ben is a brilliant dad.
24. I love to kiss my kids after they have fallen asleep. It reminds me just how wonderful and amazing they are.
25. I love that these three precious children have taught me so much about myself. They have made me a better person, and given me so many gifts that I never would have been able to enjoy if I were not their mom.
Happy Mother's Day!!!!
