Weekend Trips

I guess we haven't really "settled down" much from our month of partying yet. The last two weekends we have done quick weekend trips. Last Friday we left right after the kids got out of school and headed down to Charlotte, NC. Ben was asked to speak at a conference there and along with that comes a free hotel room and they paid for the gas to drive down, so we figured we would make it a little overnight vacation for the whole family. We got a room with two beds, and on the way down I worried about how the kids would react to one of them sleeping on the floor. Well, I should not have worried. Michael volunteered and as soon as we arrived he went about making the most plush, and warm floor bed I have ever seen.

Upon seeing this Sarah insisted on sleeping on the floor. She was quite particular about how and where her bed was put together. When she was done, it was exactly what she wanted.

Emma started to giggle, "I can't believe I get this bed all to myself." She was in heaven!

It promised to be a fabulous trip . . . and we were not let down. The next morning Ben had to get up early and attend his conference. The kids and I headed downstairs for our breakfast. There were only about two other couples at the restaurant when we got there, so we were well taken care of. The kids each got their own pot of hot chocolate with a cup of whipping cream. Sarah had three bowls of fresh berries, and Emma had a fresh platter of pancakes made up just for her. We had so much fun.

We spent the rest of the morning swimming at the pool, which was also a much anticipated event. I love it when my kids have fun. Here is a photo of one of our treat stops on the drive home. . . arn't they so sweet!

This weekend we were off again. We drove up to D.C. to attend the temple. Ben and I switched off (temple attending and kid watching). We spent some time at the Visitor's Center, took a walk on the temple grounds and ended with a KFC picnic.

Our kids (and their parents) are such troopers to go on long drives to get to where we are going. But, I have come to find that the destination is just part of the fun. I am so grateful for such sweet kids and such a wonderful husband. We really do have a blast together!

I would like to visit Charlotte. There are supposed to be some really great buildings from the 18th century.
