Backyard Scout Camp Out

A couple of weekends ago Ben decided to have a backyard camp out with the kids. It sounded fun to me, but I didn't want to push it too much because I knew that I would be sleeping inside with Nate. Once we let the kids know, there was no turning back. Sarah's first question every morning was, "How many more days until the camp out?" We decided to make it a "scout" thing. So we invited the other three cub scouts and their dads to join in. As the day came closer the forecast for rain increased. I was ready to cancel -- but Ben said it would make it more fun. I am still not sure of the reasoning there.

Anyway, up went the tents.

We had some BBQ hot dogs for dinner and headed down to the pond for some fishing.

The fishing pond is definitely one of my favorite things in our neighborhood. There was great success had by all.

When it got dark we headed back to the backyard to roast marshmallows and make Smores over the fire pit.

After the fire died down the kids got in their jammies. Luckily the rain held off until the middle of the night when everyone was in the waterproof tents -- I don't think the kids even noticed. Ben and the girls slept in our tent. The girls were in heaven . . . all snuggled down and reading books with their awesome daddy.

The scout boys had their own tent to themselves. I think they stayed up until midnight chatting and reading books.

Here is my hero.

It was a great time had by all because of this sweet guy right here. I am so lucky to have such a great husband and dad for my kiddos.

I can't remember seeing a tent with more pink than Sarah and Emma's tent (and Ben's tent)! The campout sure looked like lots of fun. Wish we were there. Soon we can have a sleepover at Grandpa's with the cousins. Can't wait to see you guys.
