Thanksgiving Weekend

We have had such a fun Thanksgiving weekend. My sweet aunt and uncle invited us up to their house for Thanksgiving dinner. Mel and Cherry live just outside of Washington D.C. and their son and his family live about an hour from there. So we all met at their home for the glorious festivities. We actually ate on Wednesday because my cousin Nicole and her two kids were headed to Utah on Thanksgiving day. So, as soon as Michael got out of school we picked up Ben from work and headed up to D.C. Cherry had prepared a delicious feast and set a beautiful table. It was so fun to have the kids together and sit around and visit.

After dinner we went downstairs and were entertained in Mel's theater room. We watched a movie in 3-D . . . the kids loved it.

We spent the night and toured D.C. on Thanksgiving day. We went the the Natural History Museum. It had lots of dinosaurs, a giant squid, the largest elephant, and lots of hands-on stuff for the kids.

We also ate lunch there and had a huge dinosaur cookie for dessert.

Then we went to the Air and Space Museum. Well, Emma and Sarah actually slept through that part. Along the sidewalk in front of the Museum there is a model of the solar system with the planets spaced to scale (i.e. the Neptune marker and Uranus marker are 244 feet apart). We walked from Pluto to the Sun counting our steps. Here we are at one of the markers.

Finally, we made a quick stop at the National Gallery and saw the only DaVinci in the Western Hemesphere. Which Michael loved because he had just read a book about DaVinci. We also saw a couple other pieces that I loved. I wanted to expose the kids to a little bit, but not overwhelm or bore them. It seemed to work out wonderfully.

We had such a fun time with Mel and Cherry that we decided to spend another night.

We got home on Friday afternoon and spent the rest of the weekend playing with our new MacBook Pro computer. We love doing the WebCam and being able to chat with family back in Utah and California.
