Pinewood Derby

Another year . . . another car (actually tank).

It was really fun to plan with Michael. He did a lot of research on what his car would look like this year. He finally decided on a design, then came the hard part . . . cutting.

The cutting always takes longer than you think. Especially when you don't really have the right tools. This year it would have been nice to have a Dremel tool. (Maybe I will have to add that to my wish list.)

Once it was cut and assembled it had to be painted. That idea came from Sarah (she is so crafty). A day earlier Sarah had built a replica of Yoda's Hut and painted it camouflaged to blend into Degaboh. (She is definitely not a "girlie girl".) Anyway, when Michael saw that he asked if Sarah could paint his car for him. I told him that he better do it, but she could help and direct. She showed him how to mix the colors to get the right shades and then how to paint them in the right places. They both loved that and it turned out really awesome.

The race was fun, but it always makes me a little stressed. My little guy is pretty competitive and it is hard for him when his is not the best of the best. He actually had a lot of fun with two of his good buddies. They were jumping, squealing, pointing and giggling all through the races. Here is one of the finishes. It was a good night!

As requested, here is a picture of Sarah's Yoda Hut.
