We had a family celebration the night of his birthday. We opened presents. It is so fun to see the other kids get so excited to give their present to him.
After opening many presents (and packages sent from across the country) we headed out for dessert. A few days before I asked Michael what he would like for his birthday dessert. I gave him options, "cup cakes, cookies, cake, ice cream". He said, "I want Chick-Fil-A Peppermint Shakes." I am pretty jealous that he gets a birthday during Peppermint Sake season -- that is definitely what I would have chosen too.
For his birthday party he had quite the elaborate plan. He is my home body, and when given the choice will always opt to have parties, play dates, etc at his own home. So, we had the party here and invited a few friends over. At school they had been playing a flight simulation game where they had to navigate from city to city while identifying terrain, weather, etc that may effect their progress. So, he asked me to recreate that game for his party. It was a little tricky and a lot of work -- but I LOVE that kind of stuff. They navigated from San Francisco, CA to Richmond, VA.
It was a lot of navigating, planning, calculating, geography, team work and decision making mixed in with some funny games. Ben and I were discussing later that it is right in line with Michael's personality to choose to do school work for his birthday party.
The kids were split up into four different teams, of three, that raced across the country. The teams worked very well together and were super cute!

We ended the party with Home Made Oreos (which we found out are called Woopie Pies in Virginia) and ice cream.

And then an awesomely-muddy game of soccer.
I am so grateful to have Michael for my little (getting much bigger) boy!
