Ben here - stepping in for Betsy to report on our first official sports outing in the DC area. The tickets were a most generous gift from Katie for Michael and me to sit in the lower bowl (about 10th row) behind the basket to watch the Phoenix Suns play the Washington Wizards.
We left around 4:00 PM (for the 7:00 PM tip-off) to allow for DC traffic, inevitable wrong-turns, and a quick trip to Wendy's in Fredericksburg. Along the way we played the "50 states license plate game", which turned out to be surprisingly fruitful along the I-95 corridor. Virginia was the clear winner (stopped counting at 37), followed by Maryland (9), Pennsylvania (4), North Carolina (4), and a surprise showing by Florida (4). We also saw Minnesota, Michigan, Ohio, California, Tennessee, South Carolina, Texas, Deleware, New Jersey, Indiana, Maine, Massachusettes, Alabama, Alaska, and New York.
We got to the game around 6:30 PM and had plenty of time to wander around and talk Dad into buying Michael an Agent Zero jersey (a.k.a. Gilbert Arenas). The game itself was a blast and Michael especially enjoyed the 3-point shooting. Michael even captured a few self-portraits along the way.
We made one more trip to concession stands for "dippin dots" before the final horn sounded and the Wizards folded like a deck of cards in the fourth quarter (for you NBA afficionados, it was quite an impressive showing by the Diesel ... he's still pretty big). We even got an up-close-and-personal visit from the Wizards mascot, "G-Man".

I think the Fredricksburg Wendys is a bit above average as Wendys go. It look like fun, especially if your into basketball.
Way to go blogger Ben! It looks like you had a great father-son adventure.
Bets, what a fun time. It looks like you guys are doing well, and I'm so glad to see it.
